As part of our mission to conserve our natural resources and share the beauty of Africa – its nature, its people, and its culture with the world, our partnership with Wine to Water East Africa is a key element.

Wine to Water East Africa is a non-profit organization registered under the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups with the registration number I-NGO/R/0305 at Ngulelo in Arusha Region, Tanzania. This organization aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 Number 6 clean water and sanitation.

Through this partnership, we are able to deliver clay pot water filters to families in one of the outlying communities that we visit during each of our safari adventures. The experience of delivering this water filter to a family is one that brings our clients closer to the people and communities in which we are traveling through and for many of our clients it is one of the highlights of their trip.

Our relationship with Wine to Water East Africa began in 2007 when David met Mesiaki Kimirei (Kim). Kim’s story, passion for pottery, and the clay filters he was producing were eye-opening for David. As a young boy, David remembers walking long distances to obtain drinkable water and this relatively simple clay filter would have been a game-changer. David wanted to bring this to not only the village he grew up in, but also to those villages he was now visiting as a safari guide and tour operator.

These clay pot filters last for about 5 years and can serve a family of 8 over that period of time. This is vital, as in many rural communities clean water remains a challenge and people often rely on ponds or dams where the water is often contaminated and not suitable for drinking and cooking.

This passion and commitment was only strengthened by Kim’s untimely passing in 2020. Together with Kim Mesiaki’s wife, Stella Mesiaki, who took up the mantle to continue his projects, David and Nature in Spirit have worked to deliver hundreds of filters to surrounding villages and communities in Tanzania. We hope this work will continue to honor Kim’s legacy and the work he started.

When booking a safari or other adventure with Nature in Spirit, a portion of our net proceeds go toward the purchase of a water filter from Wine to Water East Africa so we can continue to deliver filters on each of our trips.
