Moru Kopje Black Rhinos
Moru Kopje is a unique sanctuary for the black rhino, making it a must-visit destination in the Serengeti. This remarkable area is the only place within the park where these magnificent creatures can be observed. The black rhinos thrive here, often seen roaming near the riverbeds, favoring the lush sickle bushes that provide them with nourishment. Witnessing a black rhino in its natural habitat is truly a rare and unforgettable experience, with an estimated population of around 2,000 residing in Moru Kopje.
In addition to the black rhinos, Moru Kopje boasts another captivating attraction: Gong Rock. This site is renowned for its stunning Maasai rock paintings, nestled among a series of rocky hills. The southern region of Serengeti National Park offers an excellent vantage point for wildlife viewing, where visitors can spot a diverse array of animals. From the heights of Gong Rock, you might catch sight of climbing lions, elephants grazing below, and a variety of other wildlife, including waterbucks, leopards, baboons, and the iconic wildebeest. Moru Kopje is not just a place to see black rhinos; it’s a vibrant ecosystem teeming with life and culture.
Mount Kilimanjaro Day Hike
Start your day with breakfast before setting off on an exhilarating journey to Londorossi Gate, located at an elevation of 2,100 meters. As you ascend more than 1,000 meters through vibrant tropical montane forests, you’ll encounter diverse wildlife, including playful colobus monkeys and the striking crested turacos. Keep an eye out for elephants migrating from Kenya’s Amboseli National Park. Upon reaching the stunning Shira Plateau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated at 3,400 meters, begin your hike towards Shira 1 Camp. Traverse the captivating Lion Gorge and admire the awe-inspiring Shira Pinnacles, with magnificent views of Kibo Peak and its surrounding glaciers. After the rewarding hike, enjoy a delightful picnic lunch amidst breathtaking scenery, before returning to Arusha for a delicious dinner and a restful overnight stay.
