Tanzania Population

Tanzania boasts a population nearing 60 million, making it one of the most ethnically diverse nations in Africa. With approximately 125 distinct ethnic groups and over 100 languages spoken across the country, Tanzania is a vibrant tapestry of cultures. The warmth and hospitality of the Tanzanian people are legendary, as they eagerly invite tourists to explore their stunning landscapes, rich wildlife, and unique cultural heritage. Engaging with the locals is an exceptional way to deepen your understanding of this remarkable country, making it a highly recommended experience during your journey through Tanzania!

Visa

For most international travelers, obtaining a visa is a necessary step before visiting Tanzania. You can conveniently apply for your visa online via the official Tanzanian government visa website, which is the sole authorized platform for visa applications.

Additionally, travelers can secure a tourist or business visa upon arrival at Tanzania’s main entry points. This visa allows for a single entry and is valid for three months. Be prepared to show proof of your return travel, and note that the fee is $50 per person, while US citizens will incur a charge of $100 each.

When planning your journey to Tanzania, our team of specialists is here to assist you with every aspect of the visa and administrative process, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience.

Passport

It is essential that passports maintain a minimum validity of six months beyond your last day of travel.

Travel Insurance

While travel insurance is not mandatory for entering Tanzania, securing a plan that includes medical expense coverage is highly advisable. Many U.S. health insurance policies do not extend their benefits internationally, leaving you vulnerable to unexpected medical expenses during your trip. Furthermore, a comprehensive travel insurance plan can offer additional protections, including coverage for baggage delays, trip interruptions, and cancellations, ensuring that your travel investment is well-protected.

Vaccination

Travelers aged one year and older must present a yellow fever vaccination certificate if they are arriving from or transiting through a country where yellow fever is prevalent, especially if their layover exceeds 12 hours.

In addition to the routine vaccinations like MMR and TDP, the CDC and WHO suggest that those heading to Tanzania consider additional immunizations, including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and typhoid. Depending on the nature of your activities, vaccinations for yellow fever and rabies may also be advisable. As of January 2023, Tanzania has lifted all COVID-19 restrictions, meaning that vaccinations or PCR tests are no longer required prior to travel.

As always, we strongly recommend consulting your healthcare provider for tailored health advice before embarking on your journey to Tanzania.

Tanzania time & Currency

Tanzania is GMT + 3.

In Tanzania, the official currency is the Tanzanian shilling, but you’ll find that many establishments also accept US dollars and euros, making transactions convenient for travelers.

Language

Tanzania is a vibrant tapestry of over 100 languages, with Swahili and English serving as the official tongues. When you embark on your journey, rest assured that your Tanzania Specialist guides and hosts will communicate fluently in English. If you’re eager to immerse yourself in the local culture, consider brushing up on some essential Swahili phrases. We have compiled a list of the top 25 useful words in Swahili to help you get started! While Swahili is the language of the people, English is prevalent in the tourism industry, ensuring a smooth experience for all visitors.
